Post-installation tasks for TrueSight Capacity Optimization

Where you are in the Installation process

Complete the following post-installation activities to make your TrueSight Capacity Optimization product functional.

Register the Capacity Optimization product with the Presentation Server

After you install TrueSight Capacity Optimization, you must register the TrueSight Capacity Optimization product with the Presentation Server. This registration process enables the Presentation Server to receive data from TrueSight Capacity Optimization.

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console.
  2. Click Administration > Components.
  3. In the Components page, select the action menu console_actionMenu2.pngnext to Components, and select Add Component.
  4. For Component Type, select Capacity Optimization.
  5. Enter the Host name of the Application Server component of TrueSight Capacity Optimization . In case of multiple Application Servers, enter the host name of the Application Server that runs the Data Hub.

    Note

Adding an IP address is no longer supported. With an IP address, access to the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console, which is hosted on the Application Server, from the TrueSight console fails. You must edit the host name of the Application Server that was added in the past after you upgrade the Presentation Server.

  6. Select the Protocol as HTTPS or HTTP. The default is HTTPS.
  7. Accept the Port default value (8280 for Data Hub or 8380 for Service Container).

    Information

In order to have a successful integration, the following backend services of the Application Server must run on the same generic service container or Data Hub:

    • API Providers - Agent Data service
    • API Providers - Data Provider service
    • API Providers - Search service

If you decide to relocate a backend service, you must relocate all three of them to the new container, re-register the TrueSight Capacity Optimizationcomponent, and enter the port value according to the current container (Data Hub - 8280, Service Container - 8380).

  8. Accept * as the default tenant, or select any of the listed tenants. The list includes each tenant defined in the Remedy Single Sign-On system.
  9. Click Save.

The Capacity Optimization component is added and is listed in the Components page.

The Capacity folder is available in the left navigation pane of the console and you can start accessing it.

You can register multiple TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances with a single Presentation Server. When a user logs in to the TrueSight console, the appropriate TrueSight Capacity Optimization is selected based on the tenant of the logged in user. For more information, see Using-multiple-TrueSight-Capacity-Optimization-instances-with-a-single-Presentation-Server.

(Optional) Register the Gateway Server with TrueSight Capacity Optimization

If you have installed the Gateway Server, you must register it with TrueSight Capacity Optimization to be able to manage and use the Gateway Server from the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console.

  1. Select Administration > Gateway Manager > Gateway Servers.
  2. In the Gateway Servers table, click Add gateway server.
  3. Specify the following information:
    1. Gateway Server Name: Enter the name of the Gateway Server you want to manage through TrueSight Capacity Optimization.
    2. Port Number: Retain the default port number to connect to the Gateway Server. The default port is 10129.
    3. Service Daemon Port: Retain the default service daemon port to start the Gateway Server remotely.
This feature is currently supported for Unix only. On Windows, the Gateway Server runs as a Windows service.
    4. Server configured for HTTPS connection: Select this check box and specify the port number to configure the HTTPS communication between the Gateway Server and the Application Server. The default port for HTTPS is 10130.
    5. Auto create ETLs to populate data from this Gateway Server: Retain the default selection to create a BMC-TrueSight-Capacity-Optimization-Gateway-VIS-files-parser ETLs to load data from the scheduled Manager runs of this Gateway Server.
  4. Click Add.
The TrueSight Capacity Optimization Wizard is displayed.
  5. Configure the ETL parameters in the wizard. For information about the configuration parameters, see BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization wizard.
The Gateway Servers page displays the name of newly added Gateway Server.

You can view the status of the Gateway Server and other components using the Administration > System > Status page. For details, see Checking-the-status-of-the-product-components-and-backend-services.

Authorize users to access TrueSight Capacity Optimization

Role-based access (RBAC) to the features and components comprised in TrueSight Capacity Optimization is enabled by persona-based authorization profiles. Each authorization profile is associated with one or more BMC Remedy Single Sign-On realms and comprises user groups, roles and permissions. Collectively, the authorization profile components determine the features that users can access. Entity-level access is managed by access groups in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console. For more information about configuring access control, see Managing access control.

Configure data collection

Configure the required ETL modules to collect data for your infrastructure. The collected data is stored in the Capacity Optimization database. For more information, see Collecting data.

If you want to use the Sentry ETL modules or Moviri ETL modules, download the latest packages from EPD and deploy them.

The Home page of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console displays the list of these tasks along with the status. For details, see Getting-started-with-the-TrueSight-Capacity-Optimization-console.
