Gateway Server

The Gateway Server components gather rich metrics from the managed systems in your environment. BMC offers two versions of the Gateway Server: one for UNIX systems and one for Microsoft Windows systems. Depending on the managed systems in your environment, you can use either or both of these components to collect data from UNIX systems, Linux systems, and Microsoft Windows systems. The following table lists components and their features and functions. You can schedule and create daily automation runs and list of nodes by using Gateway Manager.

Managed node running Agent

Mandatory

One per managed node

Agent is deployed on each managed node, either Windows or UNIX. For some virtualization technologies, it is possible for a single Agent on the hypervisor to collect sufficient data on all the guests. See the Implementing section for information about deployment for specific technologies.

Analyze and Predict

Optional

≥ 0

If you are viewing per-interval reports, building workload definitions from unprocessed data on the Gateway Server, or running what-ifs or a scenario planner using queuing models, you need a Windows desktop. For details, see the Analyze and Predict documentation available on the PDFs-and-videos page.

For detailed information, see the specific guides in PDFs-and-videos.
