Using multiple TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances with a single Presentation Server

When you have a large environment, you can install multiple TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances to manage the capacity of your infrastructure. In a usual scenario, each TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance is registered with a dedicated TrueSight Presentation Server. This configuration is recommended for most of the environments.

If you want to use the same TrueSight Presentation Server for all TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances, you must perform some additional configuration steps for each TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance.

Ensure that the version of all TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances is the same.

Configuration steps

1. Create realms and users in Remedy Single Sign-On Server.

Configure separate realms and users for each TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance.

  1. Log in to the Remedy Single Sign-On Server as an administrator.
  2. Create a separate realm for each TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance.
  3. Configure the authentication type for each realm.
  4. Add the default Capacity Optimization user groups that you need for each tenant. For example, Capacity_Administration and Capacity_View
  5. Add users to these user groups.

For more information about creating realms and users, see Managing users and user groups.

2. Assign the authorization profiles to user groups.

Assign the default authorization profiles to the user groups that you created in the Remedy Single Sign-On Server.

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console as an administrator.
  2. Click Authorization Profiles. A list of out-of-the-box authorization profiles is displayed.
  3. Edit the Capacity Optimization profiles and associate the user groups. For example, associate the Capacity_Administrator user group with the Capacity Administration profile. Similarly, associate the Capacity_View user group with the Capacity View profile.
  4. Repeat step 3 for all the realms that you configured in the Remedy Single Sign-On Server.

For more information about authorization profiles, see Managing authorization profiles.

3. Register the TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances.

Register all the TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances with the TrueSight Presentation Server.

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console console as an administrator.
  2. Add the TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances that you want to register.

For more information about the registration process, see Post-installation-tasks-for-TrueSight-Capacity-Optimization.

4. Create custom user groups and users in the Remedy Single Sign-On Server.

Create custom user groups in the Remedy Single Sign-On Server. These user groups are required for association with the access groups in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console.

  1. Log in to the Remedy Single Sign-On Server as an administrator.
  2. Create user groups and add the same users that you added in step 1 for each TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances.

For more information about creating users and groups, see Configuring-users-and-user-groups.

5. Create access groups in TrueSight Capacity Optimization consoles.

Create access groups in all the TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances. The access groups are required to provide user access to capacity views.

  1. Log in to the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console as an administrator.
  2. Click Administration > Users > Access groups > Add access groups.
  3. Add the details for an access group, such as name and description.
  4. Associate the user group name created in the previous step with the access group. (The external name that you specify must match the user group name configured in Remedy Single Sign-On Server.)
  5. Repeat these steps for other TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances.

For more information about creating access groups, see Adding-and-managing-access-groups.

6. Grant view group access to access groups.

Grant view group access to the access groups that you configured in the previous step. The users associated with these access groups can view the capacity views of the view groups for which the access is granted.

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console as an administrator.
  2. Click Capacity views > View groups.

Ensure that you belong to the realm associated with the correct TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance to access the view groups.

  3. Edit the access rights of the required view groups and provide access to the access groups.
  4. Repeat these steps for other TrueSight Capacity Optimization instances.

For more information about granting access to views, see Adding-and-managing-view-groups.

7. Verify the selection of appropriate TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance.

Verify that the appropriate TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance is selected after logging in to the TrueSight console.

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console as the user that you configured in the Remedy Single Sign-On Server.
  2. Verify that the data of the appropriate TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance is displayed in the capacity views.
  3. Similarly, log in with the user configured for the other tenant and verify that the capacity views display data of the correct TrueSight Capacity Optimization instance.
