Viewing an application model
Before you begin
The availability of some features depends on the data providers in your environment, for example:
(Infrastructure Management) To see the events and devices associated with each node in the application model, your system must include TrueSight Infrastructure Management.
To perform this procedure, you must have Application Operator-level access, or higher.
To view an application model
From the Applications page, you evaluate the impact and severity of events for all your applications. Select one application to closely examine application issues.
- From the navigation pane in the TrueSight console, select Monitoring > Applications.
- Select one application that you want to examine in detail.
If the application is manually created and synthetic monitoring is not enabled, the Model tab opens by default.
The application model is displayed showing the current status of the selected application. The top-level node in the application model represents the application. Each node associated with the top-level application node represents a device or a group that is a part of the application. The color of each node determines the severity status of that node. The severity status is used to calculate the overall status of the application. For example, even if one node in the application is in critical, the entire application is considered in critical state. The following figure is an example of an automatic application model:
Example of an application model
To change the orientation of an application model
Depending on the hierarchy in which you want to view the model, click the icon and select from one of the following choices:
- Top to Bottom
- Bottom to Top
- Left to Right
- Right to Left
To highlight only impacted nodes
Click Spotlight ON to highlight only the directly impacted nodes. The rest of the nodes in the application model are dimmed. To view all the nodes in the same brightness, click Spotlight OFF.
To view the events and devices associated with each node
If you have Infrastructure Management, you can view the events and devices associated with each node.
Click a node to view all the events and devices associated with the node.
The Events tab that displays the event details is displayed by default. This information is propagated from the Monitoring > Events page. For more information about monitored events and the actions you can take, see Performing event operations in the TrueSight console.Click the Devices tab to view the devices that are a part of the node.
This information is propagated from the Monitoring > Devices page. For information about monitored devices and the displayed content, see Changing the view on the Devices page .
To perform root-cause analysis with IT Data Analytics on events from application models
Select a node, and from the action menu next to the node name in the details pane, select Launch BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics.
- From the action menu next to an event, select Launch BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics.
