Integrating end-user experience monitoring alerts to TrueSight Infrastructure Management using SNMP traps

You can configure event integration between passive end-user experience monitoring and TrueSight Infrastructure Management. This event integration uses Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition to send SNMP traps in response to passive end-user experience monitoring system alerts and incidents.

The TrueSight Infrastructure Management event management server can receive the SNMP traps and present the events' details in the TrueSight console.

When a threshold is exceeded or an event is detected, Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition sends an SNMP trap with information, such as severity, host, IP Address, and Watchpoint name. The trap information is mapped to slots in a TrueSight Infrastructure Management cell.

The following information describes how to:

  • Configure a TrueSight Infrastructure Manager server to receive SNMP traps from Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition.
  • Enable Real User Experience Monitoring Software Edition to send system and incident alerts using SNMP traps to the TrueSight Infrastructure Management server.

Integration components for Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition to TrueSight Infrastructure Management

The TrueSight Infrastructure Management event management server receives the Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition SNMP traps and presents the following type of alerts in the TrueSight console:

  • System
  • Incident
  • Error detection

You use the TrueSight Infrastructure Management's SNMP Event Adapter to receive the SNMP traps for the Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition.

To configure the TrueSight Infrastructure Management server for Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition SNMP traps

To define SNMP traps in the BMC Event Adapter, complete the following procedure:

  1. In a text editor, open the mcxa.conf file that is located in the following directory:

    • Windows: <TrueSight Infrastructure Management installation Directory>\server\etc
    • UNIX/Linux: <TrueSight Infrastructure Management installationDirectory>/server/etc

    In the mcxa.conf file, navigate to the Adapter Instances section and add the following entry:

    [snmp_adpter]
    Engine  = MA::ESnmpTrap
    ServerName = pncell_<TSIM_Hostname>
    MapFile = euemsnmptrapd.map
    SnmpDatFile = euemsnmptrapd.dat

    Note

    If the SNMP adapter is already being used for other SNMP traps, you must merge the Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition .map and .dat files into the existing SNMP adapter's .map and .dat files.

  2. Save and close the mcxa.conf file.

  3. Restart the event adapter service so it can read the updated configuration,.

When the configuration is completed for the TrueSight Infrastructure Manager to receive Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition events, you must register the Real User Analyzer as a componentin the TrueSight Presentation Server. Once the Real User Analyzer is a registered component, the TrueSight console can present the alerts.
