Bandwidth and Performance Comparison dashlet (Real User Analyzer)
The Bandwidth and Performance Comparison dashlet enables you to compare bandwidth and performance statistics for one or two Watchpoints over one or two time periods. This can be useful if you want to compare bandwidth and performance before and after making a change in the way you manage your web traffic.
Bandwidth and Performance Comparison dashlet
The dashlet compares:
- Application performance (derived using the page-render time metric)
- Bandwidth usage
- Bandwidth and performance by geographical region
The following definitions apply:
- Performance — The measure of how well an application instance is functioning, as measured using the page-render time metric
- Bandwidth — The rate of data transfer, measured in bits per second (bps)
For example, if you have two Watchpoints, one for traffic served by the origin server and one for traffic served by a Content Delivery Network (CDN), you can configure this dashlet to compare end-user experience with both sources over the same or different time periods.
You can also compare bandwidth and performance for a single Watchpoint over two time periods before and after you implement a CDN. - Origin server — The network device that hosts the original web page. This is the server that is maintained and updated by your organization.
Configuring the dashlet
Configuring this dashlet involves:
- Specifying Watchpoints for the comparison
- Specifying time periods for the comparison. You can compare data for:
- One Watchpoint over two time periods on either side of a specific date (for example, the day you begin using Akamai services)
- Two Watchpoints beginning and ending at independent dates
- Two Watchpoints in near real-time
- Specifying how the dashlet aggregates data for each Watchpoint
The dashlet can show bandwidth usage as the total number of bytes transferred for a specific Watchpoint or as an average number of bytes observed for each page.
To configure the dashlet
- On the dashlet shortcut menu, click Edit settings.
- In the Compare methodlist, select the appropriate option:
- To compare bandwidth and performance for a specific time range after a specific start date, click Independent dates.
- In the Duration list, click the time period that you want to compare statistics for.
- In the Periodlist, configure a limit for each time period:
- To begin the comparison at a specific date, click starts on and use the date selector to select a start date from the calendar.
- To end the comparison at a specific date, click ends on and use the date selector to select an end date from the calendar.
- To end the comparison period at the current time, click ends at current time.
- To compare bandwidth and performance before and after a specific date, click Pivotal date.
- In the text box that appears, use the date selector to select a date from the calendar.
- In the Duration list, select a time range for the comparison.
- To compare bandwidth and performance for a specific time range after a specific start date, click Independent dates.
- In the Comparison Watchpointssection, configure each time period:
- In the Watchpoint list, select the Watchpoint that you want to use for the time period. You can configure a different Watchpoint for each time period, or one Watchpoint for both time periods.
- In the Color theme list, click the color scheme for the statistical representations for the time period.
- In the Bandwidth comparisonsection, select an option:
To compare bandwidth usage over time for the same Watchpoint, click Total pages.
- To compare bandwidth usage over time for two Watchpoints, click Average per page.
- Click Save.
