Configuring the local SNMP agent
Configure the SNMP agent on the end-user experience component from which you want to receive SNMP traps or access the MIB information. To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.
To configure the local SNMP agent on an Analyzer, Collector, APM Central, or Monitor
- In the component interface, point to Administration > Integration, and click Network management (SNMP).
- From the Action menu for the Local agent section, select Edit.
In the Port box, type the UDP port number on which you want the local agent to listen for incoming SNMP requests.
The default value is 161, but you can change it according to your organization's policies for SNMP port settings. For an Analyzer, Collector, APM Central, or Monitor, specify port 161 or a port number from 1100 to 65535.
To use SNMPv3 for MIBs and traps, specify an SNMP engine ID for the local agent.
If you use SNMPv1 or v2c, the engine ID is optional. To enter the v3 engine ID field, perform one of the following actions:
- Use the default SNMP engine ID generated by the on-board SNMP agent by clicking the use default link.
The system enters the default value, which is a value similar to 800025fb03000c29dbe6b600. Specify your own SNMP engine ID for the local agent.
The engine ID cannot consist of only zeros (or 0xF values in hexadecimal format).
- Use the default SNMP engine ID generated by the on-board SNMP agent by clicking the use default link.
- Click Save.
To configure the local SNMP agent for the APM Console or PAE
To configure SNMP for the BMC Application Management Console or for a Performance Analysis Engine (PAE) component, you must use the snmpconfig-command.
