Associating geographic information with traffic data in the Analyzer

The system can give geographic context to the user traffic that it captures by using the embedded database containing geographic information about all known IP addresses. The geolocation database provides the following geolocation fields:

  • Country
  • Region (state)
  • Metro code
  • City
  • Organization
  • ISP
  • Reverse DNS name

To turn on the geolocation feature

To provide geographic context for web traffic statistics, turn on the geolocation feature. To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.

  1. In the Real User Analyzer, point to Administration > General settings, and then click Geolocation.
  2. Click ON.

Web traffic statistics in the Real User Analyzer component now contain geographic context.

Note

Because internet address allocations change constantly, the database that the system uses for geographic information about your traffic becomes less accurate over time. For features in BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring that rely on geolocation to function properly, the geolocation database must be up to date. From the Analyzer component, you can check for and update to the latest database. To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.. For instructions, see Updating-the-geolocation-database.
