Implementing Synthetic Device Configuration Pack

BMC strongly recommends implementing the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack on a Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor, so that you can more quickly realize value from your monitored synthetic transactions. Implement the configuration pack on a new installation of the Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor.

Obtaining the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack from the EPD website

The Synthetic Device Configuration Pack is available for download from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website at http://webapps.bmc.com/epd. To use the website, you must register and set up a user name and password. For information about downloading the configuration pack, see Downloading installation files for synthetic monitoring.

The downloaded Synthetic-device-configuration.zip file contains the following files:

Applying the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack to the system

To apply the configuration pack, you upload the ZIP file to the Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor.

To perform this procedure, you must have Administrator-level access, or higher.

To apply the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack

1. Unzip the Synthetic-device-configuration.zip file.
2. Log into the Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor with Administrator-level access or higher.
3. Backup your current configuration:
   
   1. Select the Administration tab.
   2. From the Manage configuration menu, select Download device configuration.
   3. Enter a passphrase. If you want to recover the backup configuration, you will need to reenter this passphrase.
4. Upload the device configuration pack:
   
   1. Select the Administration tab.
   2. From the Manage configuration menu, select Upload device configuration.
   3. Browse to truesight-cfg-device-synthetic.zip.
   4. Enter the passphrase, synthetic.
5. Click Save.
