Setting up timekeeping on the Aggregation Server

Extended Reporting processes information that is highly dependent on time. It is important to synchronize your Extended Reporting device with its Aggregation Server data providers. The best way to ensure synchronization is to configure the Aggregation Server for Extended Reporting and all data providers (Analyzers) to automatically poll the same Network Time Protocol (NTP) server. If automatic synchronization is not available for any of your BMC devices (for example, because of network security policies that isolate them from external servers), you must ensure that clocks are set manually with a certain degree of accuracy. It is also possible that, over time, manually set clocks will "fall out" of synchronization. For this reason, a periodic check of all clocks is recommended.

To set up timekeeping on the Aggregation Server

  1. In the Real User Collector and the Real User Analyzer, set the system time.
  2. Log on to the Aggregation Server for Extended Reporting web interface.
  3. In the Aggregation Server for Extended Reporting web interface, click Timekeeping (NTP and time zone) in General Settings.
  4. To synchronize via an NTP time server, perform the following steps:
    1. From the Action menu of the NTP configuration section, select Edit.
    2. Click NTP.
    3. In the Primary time server box, type the IP address (or host name) of a network time source. If you specify a host name, you must also configure a DNS server.
    4. (Optional) In the Secondary time server box, type the IP address (or host name) of a backup network time source. Both sources will be polled.
    5. Click Save.
    6. To enable the connection to the network time source, click ON.
    7. (Optional) To trigger an immediate synchronization, on the Action menu, click Synchronize now.
The system clocks for both system components now automatically synchronize with the network time sources that you specified.
  5. To set the system time manually, on the Action menu, click Set time manually, set the clock, and click Save.

    Note

This method is recommended only when network conditions prevent you from synchronizing via an NTP time server.

  6. Ensure that the same time zone is used for the Collector and the Analyzer.
