Associating Watchpoints with CIs

Each Watchpoint defined on a Real User Analyzer can be associated with a single CI of the BMC_ACTIVITY class.

You can associate Watchpoints with or disassociate them from CIs through the Watchpoints page in the BMC Application Management Console.

Before you begin

Ensure that you have defined CIs of the BMC_ACTIVITY class in your various service models. For more information, see Configuring how layers are displayed in BMC Atrium Explorer.

To associate a Watchpoint with a CI

  1. Log on to the BMC Application Management Console as a user with permission to perform configuration (Operator role or above).
For more information about roles and permissions, see User-permissions.
  2. Click the Administration tab.
  3. On the navigation menu, click Watchpoints.
For any Watchpoint that is already associated with an activity CI, the name of the associated CI appears in the CMDB Activity column in the relevant Watchpoint row.
  4. From the shortcut menu next to the specific Watchpoint, select Associate activity.
  5. On the CMDB Activities Mapping page, in the Associated activity field, select one of the activity CIs detected in BMC Atrium CMDB.
Available CIs are displayed in the list according to the following naming convention:
    CI_name - CI_class (Watchpoint_name, if already associated)

    Note

If the selected Watchpoint is already associated with a CI, the associated CI appears as the default selection in the Associated activity field. You can change the association by selecting a different CI from the list.

Detected CIs appear in the list even if they are already associated with Watchpoints. Such CIs are indicated by the appearance of the Watchpoint name in parentheses after the CI name. A CI can be associated with only one Watchpoint. Therefore, if you choose a CI that is already associated with a different Watchpoint, that CI is automatically disassociated from the other Watchpoint and associated with the current Watchpoint.

  6. Click Save.
The selected activity CI is associated with the specific Watchpoint and displayed in the CMDB Activity column in the relevant Watchpoint row. In addition, the Real User Analyzer is updated with information about the association.

To disassociate a Watchpoint from a CI

  1. On the BMC Application Management Console, click the Administration tab.
  2. On the navigation menu, click Watchpoints.
  3. From the shortcut menu next to the specific Watchpoint, select Disassociate activity.
The selected activity CI is disassociated from the specific Watchpoint and removed from display in the CMDB Activity column. In addition, the Real User Analyzer is updated.
