Preparing for the Diagnostic Server installation
The following topics provide information about preparing your environment before installing the BMC Application Diagnostics Server:
Preinstallation tasks for the BMC Application Diagnostics Server
- Ensure that your computer meets the system requirements.
- Ensure that the user who is installing the BMC Application Diagnostics Server has the following privileges:
- (Windows) You must be a user who belongs to the Administrator group.
- (Linux) You need root privileges. You can log on as one of the following users:
- root user
- User defined in sudo file with root privilege
- Ensure that you downloaded the installation files for BMC Application Diagnostics.
- If installing the APM Proxy, review APM-Proxy-deployment-use-cases and APM Proxy server deployment requirements
- Complete or review the installation planning worksheets.
- Review known and corrected issues.
To configure the required Terminal Server options
To enable running the installation wizard through a Terminal Services connection or a remote desktop session, certain Terminal Server configuration options that pertain to temporary folders must be configured.
- On the host computer, open the Local Group Policy Editor by selecting Start > Run and typing gpedit.msc.
- Expand the following folder: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Temporary folders.
- Double-click the following options to set each to Enabled:
- Do not delete temp folder upon exit
- Do not use temporary folders per session
- Restart the computer.
If you try to run the installation utility and again see the notification about Terminal Server configuration, backup the registry and then adjust the following key:
- On the host computer, open the Registry Editor by selecting Start > Run and typing regedit.
- Expand the following folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server.
- Set the value for PerSessionTempDir and DeleteTempDirsOnExit to 0.
- Restart the computer.
To allow the installation utility to run unrestricted
(Only for Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1) Configure the setup executable file to run in unrestricted mode, unblocked by the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature.
- Select Control Panel > System, then select Advanced system settings.
- In the System Properties dialog box, select the Advanced tab, and then click the Settings button under Performance.
- On the Data Execution Prevention tab, select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
- Click Add and select the setup.exe file that you downloaded or obtained from BMC Support.
- Click OK in all dialog boxes.
- Restart the computer.
