BMC Synthetic End User Experience Monitoring architecture

The Borland Silk Performer Synthetic Transaction Monitoring for BMC Software product provides synthetic transaction monitoring for predicting application health and user experience. Synthetic transactions are based on the execution of scripts that simulate user transactions. The following figure illustrates the components required to implement synthetic transaction monitoring. The components are in addition to the end-user experience core system components already implemented.

BMC Synthetic End User Experience Monitoring components

Monitoring of synthetic transactions by BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring involves the following product components:

Component

Description

Scripting utility

Borland Silk Performer Synthetic Transaction Monitoring for BMC Software is a utility that enables the user (typically an application specialist) to record or author .ltz scripts that simulate user transactions.

The scripting utility also serves as an execution module to run scripts on the computer with the BMC Synthetic Transaction Execution Adapter (TEA) Agent.

BMC Synthetic End User Experience Monitoring Plug-in
(part of the BMC Application Management Console)

Plug-in on the BMC Application Management Console that enables you to manage script execution and view TEA Agent status and drill down to execution logs.

Performance Analytics Engine

A component that enables you to store traffic data in a central, off-board storage location, and to locate the root causes of problems by sorting and filtering data in an intuitive and efficient way (by "zooming in" on categories of most relevance).

BMC Synthetic Transaction Execution Adapter (TEA) Agent and execution module

Remote agent that runs synthetic scripts and transfers results to the Real User Collector.

Each computer with the TEA Agent requires an execution module to run the scripts. On each TEA Agent computer, you can install the full Silk Performer installation or a smaller execution-module-only installation.

Real User Collector

Component that receives synthetic transaction data from TEA Agents.

Real User Analyzer

Component that analyzes and displays data from the Real User Collector.

Note

Synthetic transaction monitoring can work with a system that uses a Real User Analyzer and a Real User Collector or a system that uses the Real User Monitor. In this documentation, only the Analyzer and Collector are mentioned.
