Connecting to the CLI on a TS-4200 appliance

Before you can perform the initial configuration tasks, you must first use one of the following methods to connect to the command-line interface (CLI) on the TS-4200 appliance.

Connect to the TS-4200 using the iDRAC

The iDRAC enables you to remotely access the TS-4200 appliance and the CLI.

Before you can use the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) to connect to the TS-4200, you must configure an IP address for the system iDRAC.

The iDRAC uses DHCP to obtain an IP address when it is installed in your data center and connected to your network using the iDRAC port on the rear of the device. When discovered, the IP address appears on the LCD screen on the front of the TS-4200 appliance.

Best practice

Because the iDRAC enables you to remotely access the TS-4200 appliance, BMC strongly recommends that you use it to access the appliance.

For more information about iDRAC, see DELL: iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller.

For information about iDRAC security, see the Dell Knowledge Base article about best practices for Security for iDRAC, IPMI, SNMP.

Note

If your network does not support DHCP, you can manually configure the IP address of the iDRAC using the buttons and menus displayed on the LCD screen. For more information about configuring the IP address of iDRAC, refer to the relevant documentation from Dell.

To connect to the iDRAC remotely

  1. Using a web browser, connect to the IP address that you configured for the iDRAC.
  2. Log on to the iDRAC with the default user name root and password calvin.

    Recommendation

BMC recommends that you change the default user name and password immediately. Should you lose the new password, perform the steps under To reset system defaults.

  3. In the Virtual Console Preview panel, click Launch
  4. After the virtual console is launched, log in with username cliuser and password coradiant.

To reset the system defaults

If you lose your new password, BMC Customer Support cannot recover it for you, and you must perform the
following steps:

  1. Reboot the server, and press F2 to enter the System Setup.
  2. On the System Setup screen, go to Idrac>Reset iDRAC to defaults.
  3. After the reset process is finished, reboot the server and press F2 to return to system setup to reconfigure the iDRAC.
  4. On the iDRAC menu, select the network setting and configure the IP address.

Connect to the TS-4200 using a monitor and keyboard

You can directly access the system CLI for initial configuration tasks using a monitor and keyboard. To access the system CLI this way, you must have physical access to the TS-4200 series device.

To access the system using a monitor and keyboard

  1. Connect a VGA monitor to the system using a VGA cable.
  2. Connect a keyboard to the system.
  3. Log in to the system CLI with username cliuser and password coradiant.

Where to go from here

You can explore the CLI or perform the initial configuration tasks.
