Defining and managing data providers for Extended Reporting

A Real User Analyzer instance serves as the data provider for Extended Reporting reportsYou define one or more data providers to make application health and usage data available to an Aggregation Server.

During the initial Aggregation Server configuration tasks, you must set up at least one data provider. The following topics describe how to manage and set up additional data providers.

Data providers

The Data providers page reports the connection status between the Aggregation Server and each data provider, and displays information about each data provider.

The following tables describe the status indicators. Times are displayed in the Analyzer's system time.

Fields on the Data providers page

Field

Description

Status

Indicates whether the connection with the data provider is activated.

Name

Displays the name of the data provider.

Connection information

Displays the IP address (or host name) and port number used for data transfer. If the data provider transfers data via HTTPS, the lock icon is displayed.

Health

Indicates the status of a given data provider. (See Data provider status indicators.)

Data processing

Displays a timeline for the past four hours. Icons indicate the times of the data most recently loaded in the data warehouse, the latest extract, and the last successful extract that occurred. (See Data processing events.)

Indicator

Color

Status

Left

Green

The Aggregation Server is receiving data from the data provider.

Middle

Orange

The Aggregation Server is not receiving data from the data provider.

Missing data will be collected as long as the issue is resolved within three hours.

Right

Red

The Aggregation Server is not receiving data from the data provider.

All

Gray

There is no data from the data provider, but the data provider is available.

Expand a data provider to get detailed status information.

Indicator

Description

Clock drift

This section is highlighted if clock drift triggers a warning.

Clock drift is the extent to which the Aggregation Server is asynchronous with the time of a data provider. If the Aggregation Server indicates that the time is 1:14 P.M. and a data provider indicates that it is 1:15 P.M.; the data provider's clock drift is +1. Clock drift might indicate that Aggregation Server and a data provider (Analyzer) are not polling the same NTP server.

Health

The details of the last main events of the data extraction history for a given data provider

Version

The firmware version of the data provider

Time zone

The last known time zone of the data provider

        Note

The Time synchronization option is not utilized in this release of BMC Real End User Monitoring Aggregation Server for Extended Reporting.

  4. Click Turn this data provider on automatically to enable the connection between the Analyzer and Aggregation Server data provider as soon as it is configured. You can also turn the data provider on or off in the Data providers page.
  5. The changes will take effect during the next extraction interval. (For information, see Defining-traffic-extraction-rules.)
  6. To test the system connection, expand the data provider entry next to the ON|OFF switch, and, in the shortcut menu, click Test.

To change data provider settings

  1. In the row for a given data provider, on the shortcut menu, click Edit.
  2. Change the settings.
