Installing system updates  in the Analyzer and Collector components

To update the system components, download and install the update packages. All packages are encrypted so that unauthorized persons cannot upload and install them.

To perform this procedure, you must have Administrator-level access, or higher.

  1. In the Analyzer or Collector interface, point to Administration > Device Status, and click Device update.
  2. On the Action menu, click Check for updates.
If no updates are available, the system displays the No updates available message.
If updates are available, they are listed in the Available updates table. For each update, the icons show the following information:

You can download update packages separately or download an update rollup.

  3. To download an update package to your local computer, click Get, and select the place to store the update package.
  4. In the view selector, click Step 2: Load and Install, and then click Open update loader.
  5. In the Update loader window, click Select package, locate the update package that you downloaded, and click Open.
  6. After the system loads and decrypts the package, click Done.
The package is now ready to be installed.
  7. Perform one of the following actions:
    • To install the package, click Install now.

      Note

      • After you click Install now, you cannot stop the installation.
      • During the update process, the system does not capture traffic.

During the upgrades installation, the system prompts for migrating the Session Browser data. The process of migrating the historical session data might take up to 24 hours, during which the system does not capture data.

BMC recommends that you answer Yes only if you really need the historical session data (usually it is a span of a few days).

If you answer No, the historical session data is not migrated, but in a few days the storage will be full of the new data.

    • To install the package later, click set installation timeand perform one of the following actions:
      • To keep the update package on the component for later use, select Not scheduled.
      • To set the time of installation, select Selected date and specify the date and time to install the update.

You can send an email alert to the notification group that you specify in the Send email to list to say that the component will reboot and give instructions to prepare for it.
  8. Click Save.

After the update package is installed, the component reboots automatically.
