Step 1 – Activating the component

The Real User Analyzer, Real User Collector, and Aggregation Server for Extended Reporting components require activation. If you have BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring 2.0, the license key is displayed in the system by default. For earlier versions of this product, activation involves entering a product key, as shown in the following figure.

Entering the product key

The default product key, valid for 30 days, is:

Activating the component manually

If the product key has expired, or if you need a permanent key for a component instance that is already deployed, you can activate the component manually by requesting a license file from BMC and uploading it via the web interface of the component.

Manual activation involves:

  1. Downloading a registration file from the component. The registration file is used to identify your instance of the appliance.

    Notes

    • For newly deployed instances, on the Activation page of the configuration wizard, click the link.
    • If the Real User Analyzer, Real User Collector, and Aggregation Server for Extended Reporting instances have already been activated with the 30-day product key, on the System information and licenses page, on the Action menu, click Download Registration Info.
  2. Sending the registration file with your product key to BMC via email. When BMC receives your registration file and product key, BMC will send you the license file that you need to activate the product manually.

    Note

Send the registration-information file to co-tsactivation@bmc.com indicating your support contract ID and, for Analyzer instances, the number of Watchpoints. Or you can open a support request on the BMC Support site and attach the registration-information file.

  3. Uploading the license file in the web interface of the component. BMC sends you this file to be uploaded on the component. The file is in ZIP format; do not unzip it. When you upload the file, the system will restart (a soft reboot).

After activation, BMC will send you a ZIP file to be uploaded on the component. Do not unzip this archive because it contains required files. Log on to the component as an Administrator and follow these steps:

  1. In the Real User Analyzer, open the Administration > Device status > Device update page.
  2. On the "Step 2: Load and Install", click Open update Loader.
  3. In the new window, click Select Package and locate the license file.
  4. Click Install.
The license will be installed and the system will perform a soft reboot to complete the installation.
