Controlling remote access to the command-line interface

When secure-shell (SSH) access is on, you can remotely access a component through its CLI. This access is useful if the web interface becomes unusable and you must make configuration changes.

Note

The VM administrator can access the CLI through the Console tab of the VMware client software.

However, you generally want to restrict CLI access. For example, if you are making configuration changes through the web interface, you do not want other users to be able to configure the same features through the CLI. When you switch SSH access off, users can no longer access the component through its CLI.

To perform this procedure, you must have Security-level access.

To prevent SSH access

  1. In the BMC Application Performance Management Console interface, click System Deployment.
  2. In the Services section, click the SSH Access switch to prevent SSH access.

Now, users cannot remotely access the CLI of the component.
