Configuring error alert notifications

To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.

By default, all system error-detection rules have email and SNMP alerting disabled. To enable alerting for the system and custom errors that you and other stakeholders are interested in, perform the following procedures.

To configure the alert settings for multiple rules

To make the system alert you (and other interested stakeholders) when certain types of errors occur, you must configure the alert settings for error-detection rules.

  1. On a Real User Analyzer, select Administration > Thresholds and problem detection > Error detection rules.
  2. Select the boxes for the rules that you want to trigger alerts.
  3. On the Action menu on the bottom of the rules list, select one of the following options:
    • Enable e-mail alert for checked — This enables e-mail alerting for selected rules.
    • Enable SNMP trap for checked — This enables SNMP traps for selected rules.

The rules are now configured to send alerts.

Note

You can also change alert settings for a single rule by editing the Alerting parameter in the rule's settings.

To configure the email settings for alerts

To set up the email addresses of the stakeholders who are interested in receiving alerts with email, you must configure the email settings for alerts.

  1. On the Action menu in the Email alert settings section, click Edit.

  2. Select the email notification group to which to send the alert. Select an existing group or add a new one.
  3. To limit the number of email messages the system sends in a given time period, select a time period from the Maximum frequency list.
This protects recipients from the email floods in case a large number of errors is detected.
  4. To adjust the maximum number of alerts per email message, change the value in the Maximum alerts per email text box.
The system can send up to 1000 unique alerts per email message.
  5. Click Save.
