Setting the system time

You can set the system time for BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring components (the Real User Analyzer and Collector) in the following ways:

  • Manually — Specify the current date and time.
  • Automatically— Synchronize with a time server through the network time protocol (NTP):
    • Specify the IP address of the network time source to synchronize with.
    • (Optional) Specify a secondary network time source to synchronize the system with.
    • Enable automatic synchronization with the specified network time source.

To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.

To set the system time manually

  1. In the Real User Collector, point to Administration > Integration, and click Timekeeping (NTP and time zone).
  2. Ensure that Automatic synchronization is set to OFF timekeeping_auto_off.png.
  3. In the Set time and synchronization section, on the Action menu, click Set time manually.
  4. In the Date and Time boxes, set the current date and time.
  5. Click Save.
  6. To enable the connection to the network time source, click ON.

  7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for the Real User Analyzer.

    The system clocks in the Collector and Analyzer components display the time that you set.

Note

The system time might become less accurate over time, so you might need to reset the time manually, or synchronize it automatically with a network time server through NTP.

To synchronize time automatically through NTP

To make the system clocks in the Collector and Analyzer components show the same time that your other network devices show, you must synchronize system clocks with a network time source.

  1. In the Real User Collector, point to Administration > Integration, and click Timekeeping (NTP and time zone).
  2. In the Set time and synchronization section, on the Action menu, click Edit.
  3. In the Primary time server box, type the IP address or the URL of the primary time server (for example, ntp.bmc.com).
  4. (Optional) In the Secondary time server box, type the IP address or the URL of the secondary time server (for example, 192.0.2.10).
     Multiple time sources increase the clock's accuracy. Also, a secondary time server might serve as a backup for the primary server.
  5. Click Save.
  6. To enable the connection to the network time source, click ON.

  7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for the Real User Analyzer.

    The system clocks for both system components now automatically synchronize with the network time sources that you specified.
