Configuring local SNMP agent

To start using SNMP, you must provide an SNMP engine ID for the local agent. This ID is a unique identifier that enterprise management systems use to uniquely identify the component. To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.

To configure the local SNMP agent

  1. In the Real User Analyzer interface, point to Administration > Integration, and click Network management (SNMP).
  2. On the Action menu for the Local agent section, click Edit.
  3. In the Port box, type the UDP port number that you want the local agent to monitor for incoming SNMP requests.

    Note

The default value is 161, but you can change it according to your organization's policies regarding SNMP port settings.

  4. To fill the v3 engine ID field, perform one of the following actions:
    • Use the default SNMP engine ID generated by the on-board SNMP agent by clicking the use default link.
The system enters the default value, which is a value similar to 800025fb03000c29dbe6b600.
    • Specify your own SNMP engine ID for the local agent.
The engine ID cannot consist of only zeros (or 0xFvalues, in hexadecimal format).

      Note

The v3 protocol does not function without the agent ID. If you leave it blank, the v3 capability is disabled.

  5. Click Save.
