Configuring SNMP v3 compatible traps


To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.

Before you begin

  • Before the device can send traps, you must configure the local SNMP agent.
  • You must know which security level you need to use. Select one from the table below.

To configure SNMP v3 compatible traps

  1. In the Real User Analyzer interface, point to Administration > Integration, and click Network management (SNMP).
  2. On the Action menu for the Traps section, click Edit.
  3. Select Send SNMP v3 compatible traps.
  4. In the Trap security level list, select one of the following options:
    • For an unauthenticated connection with no privacy, click No Authentication or Privacy (noAuthNoPriv), and in the User name box, type the user name for the account that is accessing the MIB.
    • For an authenticated connection with no privacy, click Enable Authentication and no Privacy (authNoPriv), and then:
      1. In the User name box, type the user name for the account that is accessing the MIB.
      2. In the Authentication protocol field, perform one of the following actions:
        • To use the MD5 hashing algorithm to encrypt incoming credentials, select MD5.
        • To use the SHA hashing algorithm to encrypt incoming credentials, select SHA.
      3. In the Authentication password box, type the corresponding password, which must be alphanumeric and contain at least eight characters.
    • For an authenticated and private connection, click Enable Authentication and Privacy (authPriv).
      1. In the User name box, type the user name for the account that is accessing the MIB.
      2. In the Authentication protocol field, perform one of the following actions:
        • To use the MD5 hashing algorithm to encrypt incoming credentials, select MD5.
        • To use the SHA hashing algorithm to encrypt incoming credentials, select SHA.
      3. In the Authentication password box, type the corresponding password, which must be alphanumeric and contain at least eight characters.
      4. In the Privacy password box, type the password to decrypt the request, which also must be alphanumeric and contain at least eight characters.
  5. Click Save.
