Implementing Synthetic Device Configuration Pack: 2.5.01

BMC strongly recommends implementing the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack, so that you can more quickly realize value from your monitored synthetic transactions. Implement the configuration pack on a new installation of the Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor.

Warning

Do not implement the configuration pack on a system that has manual configurations. The configuration pack resets all existing configuration to the default settings.

If you want to manually add configuration for synthetic transaction monitoring to a working system, see Recommended-configuration-for-synthetic-monitoring-2-5-01.
If you implemented the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack for BMC Synthetic End User Experience Monitoring version 2.5.00, and you upgraded the system to version 2.5.01, then you can edit the added Watchpoints and error-detection rules according to the recommended configurations for 2.5.01. Version 2.5.01 uses POST parameters in the configuration, which is different from the earlier version. Editing these items will preserve your history and configured dashlets.

This topic presents the following tasks to obtain the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack, upload it to the system, and activate its contents:

Obtaining the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack from the EPD website

The Synthetic Device Configuration Pack is available for download from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website at http://webapps.bmc.com/epd. To use the website, you must register and set up a user name and password. For information about downloading the configuration pack, see Downloading-installation-files-for-synthetic-monitoring.

The downloaded Synthetic-device-configuration.zip file contains the following files:

Applying the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack to the system

To apply the configuration pack, upload the ZIP file to the Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor.

To perform this procedure, you must have Administrator-level access, or higher.

To install the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack

Unzip the Synthetic-device-configuration.zip file.
Log into the Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor with Administrator-level access or higher.
Backup your current configuration:
1. Select the Administration tab.
2. From the Manage configuration menu, select Download device configuration.
3. Enter a passphrase. If you want to recover the backup configuration, you will need to reenter this passphrase.
Upload the device configuration pack:
1. Select the Administration tab.
2. From the Manage configuration menu, select Upload device configuration.
3. Browse to truesight-cfg-device-synthetic.zip.
4. Enter the passphrase, synthetic.
Click Save.
