Implementing Synthetic Device Configuration Pack: 2.5.00

The Synthetic Device Configuration Pack simplifies configuration for BMC Synthetic End User Experience Monitoring. The configuration pack contains Watchpoints and Error-detection rules for the Real User Analyzer, so that you can start monitoring synthetic data more quickly.

Note

If you implemented the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack for BMC Synthetic End User Experience Monitoring version 2.5.00, and you upgraded the system to version 2.5.01, then you must delete the existing Watchpoints and error-detection rules before implementing the recommended configurations for 2.5.01. The later version uses POST parameters in the configuration, which is different from the earlier version.

The following tables describe the configuration elements that are updated with the configuration pack.

Archived Page Watchpoints

Watchpoint name

Description

All synthetic transactions

Archived page Watchpoint to aggregate all synthetic transactions

All synthetic transactions with errors

Archived page Watchpoint to aggregate all synthetic transactions that end with an error

Error-Detection Rules

Error-detection rule name

Description

Synthetic transaction execution error

Detects synthetic executions that encountered a problem in the execution engine (Category: Custom Error)

Synthetic transaction availability error

Detects synthetic transactions that ends with an availability error (Category: Application Error)

Synthetic transaction accuracy error

Detects synthetic transactions that ends with an accuracy error (Category: Content Error)

This topic presents the following tasks to obtain the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack, upload it to the system, and activate its contents:

Obtaining the Synthetic Device Configuration Pack from the EPD website

The Synthetic Device Configuration Pack is available for download from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website at http://webapps.bmc.com/epd. To use the website, you must register and set up a user name and password. For information about downloading the configuration pack, see Downloading-installation-files-for-synthetic-monitoring.

The downloaded Synthetic-configuration-pack.zip file contains the following files:

  • readme.txt
  • device-configuration.zip

Turning on Watchpoints

The Synthetic Device Configuration Pack provides archived page Watchpoints, which you can use as a starting point to modify or define your own Watchpoints. For details about Watchpoints, see Defining-a-page-Watchpoint.

  1. In the Real User Analyzer, select Watchpoints > Archived Watchpoints.
  2. From the shortcut menu of each uploaded synthetic Watchpoint, select De-archive & turn on.

Turning on error-detection rules

The Synthetic Device Configuration Pack provides error-detection rules, which you can use as a starting point to modify or define your own error-detection rules. For details about error-detection rules, see Error-detection-rules.

  1. In the Real User Analyzer, select Administration > Thresholds and problem detection > Error detection rules.
  2. For each uploaded synthetic error-detection rule, click ON.
