Configuring synthetic monitoring

After installing the BMC Synthetic End User Experience Management components that are required for monitoring synthetic transactions, you must configure various monitoring elements through the BMC Application Performance Management Console.

A Business Service is a container of Execution Plans, enabling you to group together related sets of Execution Plans. With Business Services, you can specify Agent Groups, schedules, and blackout periods that can be applied to several Execution Plans.

Every Execution Plan is associated with a Business Service, and a new Execution Plan inherits settings from the Business Service. You can modify or override some of the settings in the Execution Plan definition. An Execution Plan is a wrapper for a script. Through an Execution Plan, you specify the configuration for the script (including custom attributes), Agent Groups on which the script runs, run schedules, and blackout periods.

BMC Synthetic End User Experience Monitoring comes with the following prerecorded scripts: FtpPinger.ltz, Pinger.ltz, and URLChecker.ltz. You can use an external scripting tool to create more scripts.
