Logging on for the first time


The recommended activities for a quick start with the product include the following steps:

  • Logging on via the

    — The credentials that you must use to log on are set when the Console component is installed.
  • Accepting the EULA — The first time someone in your organization logs on to the web interface (normally the Security user), the BMC End User License Agreement (EULA) is displayed. After the EULA is accepted, it is valid during the whole lifecycle of a component instance.
  • Changing your password — A Security user password is created when the Console component is installed. BMC recommends that you change the password during your first Console session.
  • Creating at least one Administrator account (optional) — For everyday management of the system, we recommend that you create at least one Administrator account. The Administrator role has access to all features except those related to security.
  • Protecting sensitive information (optional) — As a user with the Security role, you have control over how the system handles sensitive information. You can upload keys for deciphering encrypted traffic, decide how to protect end users' private data, enhance access security, and perform other security-related activities.

To log on for the first time

  1. In the address bar of a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox), type the URL of the

  2. In the User Name box, type the Security user name, for example ITSec.
  3. In the Password box, type the password for the Security user, for example changeme.
  4. Click Log on.
  5. Read the EULA and click Accept.
  6. Click the user name in the top left corner of the screen.

  7. On the Action menu, click Change password.

  8. In the Current password text box, type changeme (the default minimum password length is 6 characters – this can be adjusted by a Security user in Administration > Security settings > Account Policies page of the

  9. In the New password text box, type your new password.
  10. In the Confirm new password text box, type your new password again.
  11. Click Save.

The password has been changed.
