Before you begin

If you want to use the DNS hostname of your component instances (rather than the IP address), you must set DNS parameters on the Console before adding components to it.

To add a component instance to the Console

) to the system, you must know the IP address and the Security account credentials for the component.

  1. On the Console, click the Administration tab.
  2. On the menu, click Component Management > Configuration.
  3. On the Action menu, click Add Component.
  4. In IP/DNS Name, type the IP address of the component (Collector, Analyzer, or

  5. In the Port box, accept the default value of 443.
  6. In User Name, type you user name.
  7. In Password, type your password.
  8. Click Save.

The instance is now added to the Console. It can be observed at the Configuration page.

Result

The component is now added to the Configuration page. While the Console is trying to establish a connection to the component, the Status displays UNKNOWN. After a connection is established, the Status changes to OK. If the Status displays ERROR, the component was not added correctly.

After connecting the components to each other and adding them to the Console, the system can pull traffic data into the configured Watchpoints.
