Configuring server-side settings

Server-side operations are actions performed on the BMC ProactiveNet Child Server or Servers when the policy is applied. The actions apply to all devices associated with the BMC PATROL Agent and all monitor instances that are monitored by the agent.

For details about the server-side options, see BMC ProactiveNet Administrator Guide.

Before you begin

Ensure that monitor configuration is complete before server configurations are applied. Server configurations cannot be applied to monitors that are not configured through Central Monitoring Administration. If you have not done so already, define general policy details.

To add a server-side operation

  1. Open the Add Policy or Edit Policy dialog box.

    1. In the navigation pane of Central Monitoring Administration, click the Policies drawer and select a policy view.
    2. Click Add, or select an existing policy and click Edit.
  2. Select the Server Configuration tab and enter or edit the options. The options are described in the Options for Server Configuration table.
  3. To clear all fields, click Reset.
  4. When you finish specifying server-side operations, click Save at the bottom of the Add Policy dialog box, or Update at the bottom of the Edit Policy dialog box.

After you save or update the policy, server-side operations are pushed to BMC PATROL Agents with matching Central Monitoring Configuration tags.

Instructions

Add monitors to group

Enter the name of a group on the BMC ProactiveNet Child Server under which you want to see monitor instances in the BMC ProactiveNet Administration Console and Operations Console.

  • If you enter more than one group name, separate the names with a comma.
  • Use a forward slash (/) to specify a group in a hierarchy, such as abc/def/myGroup.
  • If the group does not exist, it will be created.
  • If more than one group exists with the same name, and a distinct hierarchy is not specified, monitor instances are not added to a group.
  • Group names are case-sensitive.

Copy baseline from device

Enter the display name of the device from which to copy baselines. Device names are case-sensitive.

Associate user groups with Computer System CI (Devices) for access control

Enter the name of a user group to which you want to add devices that are monitored through the BMC PATROL Agent. If you enter more than one user group name, separate the names with a comma. User group names are case-sensitive.

All computer system configuration items (CSCIs) created on child servers as a result of the policy are associated with the specified user groups.
