Installing BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring
Use the following installation instructions while installing BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring:
Before you begin
- You first must install on a limited number of computers in the test environment, test the installation thoroughly, and then install in your production environment.
- You must have created the PATROL default account.
To install BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring
( UNIX ) Perform the following sub-steps to start the installation utility. If you are installing in a Windows environment, skip to step 2.
- From a command line prompt, change to the directory in which the installation utility is located.
- Start the installation utility using the following command: UNIX:./setup.sh -serveronly
- Start the web browser and direct the web browser to the URL displayed in the message box (enter the URL in your browser's Address or Go To field).
- ( Windows ) From the installation CD or from an electronically downloaded (EPD) installation image, start the installation utility by running setup.exe (Windows) or setup.sh (UNIX).
- In the Welcome to the Installation Utility window, click Next to begin your installation.
- In the Review License Agreement page, review the license agreement, select Accept, and click Next.
- From the Select Installation Option window, select I want to install products on this computer now, then click Next.
- In the Select Installation Option window, select one of the following options:
- To install locally now, select Install products on this computer now and click Next to continue.
- To create an installable image that you can install locally and remotely later, select*Create an image to be installed later,* enter the directory where you want the installation image stored, and click Next to continue.
To determine whether to install now or create an image that you can install later locally or remotely, see Preparing-for-installation.
- In the Specify Installation Directory window, accept the default directory and click Next to continue.
The PATROL product directory that you enter in step 11 is appended to the path that you enter in this step. - In the Select Type of Installation window, select Default or Custom and click Next to continue.
You must use the Custom installation type in the following instances:- You are installing into an existing PATROL environment.
You want the PATROL Agent to use a port other than the 3181 (the default).
In the Select System Roles window, select any or all of the roles listed to indicate the components that you want to install, and click Next.

- From the Select Products and Components to Install window, make one of the following selections:
- If you selected the Default installation type, select BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring and click Next.
The Default installation type does not display the KMs for selection; you can select only BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring, and only the BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring Knowledge Module is installed. - If you selected the Custom installation type, select BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring, one or both of the PATROL KMs listed, and click Next.
If you selected the Custom installation type, the Provide the PATROL 3. x Product Directory window is displayed.
- If you selected the Default installation type, select BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring and click Next.
- (Custom installation only) In the Provide the PATROL 3. x Product Directory window, enter the directory in which you want to install BMC PATROL for Web Services Monitoring in the PATROL 3.x Product Directory field, or accept the default directory.
The directory entered in this step is appended to the base directory path that is shown in the BMC Products Installation Directory field that you entered the installation directory in step 9. - In the Review Selections and Install window, review the selections carefully:
- If you want to change your selections, click Back and make those changes.
- If the selections are correct, select Start Install.
A status window opens and provides current messages, current milestones, and percentage complete.
- When the status window reports that the installation is 100% complete, click Next to view the results window.
- In the Installation Results window, click View Log to review the installation, and click Next to view the results window.
- In the Installation Results window, click Finish to exit from the installation utility.
