Information
Announcement Support for this product will end on November 3, 2025. We recommend that you use PATROL for Linux, PATROL for AIX, or PATROL for Solaris to monitor operating systems.

Mounting a filesystem

This task describes how to mount a filesystem that BMC PATROL has detected as offline or that has not been discovered.

Before you begin

  • You must be root to run this command.
  • To perform this task, you must be in developer mode. If you attempt to mount a filesystem when in operator mode, BMC PATROL displays the following error message in the system output window.
FILESYSTEM: Only Development Console can filter an instance

To mount a filesystem

On any filesystem, perform the following steps.

  1. Access the FILESYSTEM application menu as described in Accessing KM Commands and InfoBoxes.
  2. Select Maintenance > Mount > Automatic or Manual.

    Warning

    Note

This menu command is only available when the filesystem is offline, when the filesystem is online, it is dimmed. The Manual option is only available on Linux, RS6000, OSF1, and HP platforms only. The Manual mount option is not available on the Solaris platform.

Automatic

BMC PATROL uses the filesystem table to determine where to mount the filesystem. It prompts you for the password for the root account (shown in following figure). This option is available only if the filesystem has been unmounted.

Manual

Warning

Note

You can manually mount a filesystem on Linux, RS6000, OSF1, and HP platforms only. The manual mount option is not available on the Solaris platform.

BMC PATROL prompts you for the device name, where it should enter the filesystem, and whether or not it should update the filesystem table as below.

Manual Mount Dialog Box

    • Enter Device Name --the location (absolute path) of the filesystem (machine_name:/path)
    • Enter Mounted On --the path to be assigned to the filesystem after it is mounted
    • Update Filesystem Table --determine whether or not to make a record of this mount in the filesystem table; a record in the filesystem table ensures that the filesystem will be automatically mounted when the managed system is rebooted

Supply the required information for the type of mount that you are performing and click Apply. BMC PATROL mounts the filesystem to your network and writes the result to the system output window.
