Voluntary Context Switches Per Second (CPUVolCSwitch)
This parameter displays the number of voluntary context switches per second inside the CPU.
POWER6-based servers offer the capability of donating unused CPU cycles. Thus, other processes of different partition replace processes running on dedicated processors. This causes a voluntary context switch. Although, the dedicated partition donates its unused capacity, the processes in the partition are affected because of the voluntary context switches. This parameter reports the number of voluntary context switches per second.
As the dedicated partition donates more, the number of voluntary context switches goes up. This is an indication of the manner in which a dedicated partition is affected even though it is donating its unused capacity.
This parameter is activated and reported only on a dedicated partition, if the partition is donating.
