Configuring Sybase SQL Anywhere in PATROL environment


To monitor the Sybase SQL Anywhere using PATROL for Sybase, you must define connections with the Sybase database systems.

Perform the following tasks to configure PATROL for Sybase for monitoring Sybase SQL Anywhere:

Adding Sybase SQL Anywhere environment

Perform the following steps to configure the Sybase environment:

  1. From the PATROL Console work area, right-click the Sybase application class.
  2. Select KM Commands > Sybase Configuration > Add Sybase Environment.
    The Add new Sybase configuration dialog box is displayed.
  3. In the Add new Sybase configuration dialog box, provide the following information:Click Apply to save the configuration.
    1. Environment name—To add a new environment, enter a unique display name for the Sybase SQL Anywhere environment. A container will be created with the environment name. This environment will hold all the Syabse instances. 

      Note

      You should not provide any special characters such as "\ */?":<>" in the environment name field.

    2. Host—Enter the host name or IP number of the system where the Sybase SQL Anywhere instance is running.
      If you are monitoring the SQL Anywhere database of BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management, enter <TrueSight Infrastructure Management host name>.
    3. Port—Enter the port number of the Sybase SQL Anywhere instance.
      If you are monitoring the SQL Anywhere database of BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management, enter 2638 in this field.
    4. User—Enter the user name that is used to connect to Sybase SQL Anywhere. 
      If you are monitoring the SQL Anywhere database of BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management, enter dba in this field. For password, contact the BMC Support team.
    5. Password—Enter the password for the user name. 
    6. From the following list of Sybase software product, select SQL Anywhere for monitoring the Sybase SQL Anywhere: 
      • ASE
      • Replication
      • IQ
      • SQL AnyWhere

        By default, ASE will be enabled.
    7. Custom collection details— Select any of the following collection details for monitoring the Sybase SQL Anywhere instance.
      • Availability—Select this option to check the availability of instances, connections, and databases.
      • Full data—Select this option to collect all the monitored groups.
      • Custom data—Select this option to collect only the monitored groups selected from the custom data module types.

        If you select custom data as Custom collection details, a dialog box will be displayed to select one or more of the following options to customize data: 

        • Databases
        • Capacity
        • Performance

        The availability of Sybase SQL Anywhere will be monitored all the time irrespective of the custom data you select for monitoring.


  4. Click Accept to save the configuration.
  5. Click Close to close the dialog box.

Administering tasks

 From the PATROL Console work area, right-click the Sybase application class to perform the administering tasks:

  1. Access KM commands > Administration > DEBUG to turn the debug on or off.
