11.0.00 Enhancements

This topic provides information about the enhancements and features introduced in BMC PATROL for Sybase version 11.0.00 and provides instructions for downloading the installation files.

Enhancements

Support for new platforms and new versions of Sybase databases.

BMC PATROL for Sybase version 11.0.00 now supports new version of Sybase databases and  the following platforms. 

  • Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit) 
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 6.2 and 6.3
  • Solaris 1

Support for monitoring Sybase SQL AnyWhere

BMC PATROL for Sybase version 11.0.00 now supports monitoring of Sybase SQL AnyWhere. For information about the supported version of Sybase SQL AnyWhere, see System-requirements.

Support for remote monitoring

Along with local monitoring, BMC PATROL for Sybase now supports remote monitoring of Sybase instances. 

Integration with BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management and BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management

With version 11.0.00 of BMC PATROL for Sybase, you can configure Sybase either using BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration console or BMC TrueSight Operations Management Central Monitoring Administration Management. For information, see Configuring-after-installation.

Discovery of Sybase environment using Java Database Connectivity (JDBC)

PATROL for Sybase connects to the Sybase databases using JDBC. Using this JDBC connection, PATROL for Sybase collects data for discovery, availability, and statistics.

Support for IPv4 and IPv6

BMC PATROL for Sybase supports Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). You can enter the IPv6 address as the host to monitor. 

Enhanced the monitoring coverage of Backup Server

BMC PATROL for Sybase has enhanced the monitoring coverage of Backup Server. You can configure the Backup Server using the same configuration settings of ASE, depending on the consoles you are configuring.

In the configuration settings, you can select any of the following collection details for monitoring the Sybase ASE instance:

  • Availability—Provides remote monitoring capabilities of the server and provides enhanced capability of including in a BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management service model, and monitoring of server availability and response.
  • Custom data—By enabling the Custom data, Databases, allows to expose database instances, and also allows you to configure the custom SQL queries monitor type on the same Backup Server.

Downloading the installation utility and the product files

This section provides instructions for downloading BMC PATROL for Sybase 11.0.00 from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

If you have previously downloaded other BMC PATROL products, you might have an older version older version of the installation utility on your hard drive. BMC recommends that you use the latest version of Installation Utility, BMC Installation Utility 9.6.00. To download the latest version of the installation utility for this service pack, perform the following steps.

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the patch from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website. To download the patch and installation utility from the EPD website, perform the following steps:

  1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.

    Note

    On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.

  2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
  3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
  4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
  5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
  6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.

  7. You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:

    Using Component View
    1. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
    2. Click Go.
    3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
    4. In the Version: list, select 9.6.01, and click Go.

    5. In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

    6. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
      • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
      • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
        This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
    7. Click  Close icon.png to close the window.
    8. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL for Sybase.
    9. Click Go.
    10. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL for Sybase.
    11. In the Version: list, select 11.0.00, and click Go.

    12. In the Product tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

    13. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:

    14. Complete the installation procedure described in the Installing the patch section.
    Using Licensed Products View
    1. Click Go To Licensed Products View.
    2. Locate BMC Performance Manager for Databases and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
    3. Expand BMC Performance Manager for Databases 3.6.00 to show the available components.

    4. Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.01 to show the available files.

      Note

       You can use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.00 or later.

    5. Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platforms.

    10. Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platform.
