Configuring Sybase components using Central Monitoring Administration


This topic provides information about configuring Sybase by using Central Monitoring Administration.

On the Add Monitor Types dialog, with the Monitoring Profile set to Sybase Monitoring, and the Monitor Type set the Sybase component, provide the following details:

Field

Description

Sybase Configuration Information

Environment Name

Enter a unique display name for the Sybase database environment. A container will be created with the environment name. This environment will hold all the Sybase instances.

Note

You should not provide any special characters such as "\ */?":<>" in the environment name field.

Host

Enter the host name or IP number of the system where the Sybase instance is running.

Port

Enter the port number of the Sybase instance.

Sybase account credentials

User Name

Enter the user name that is used to connect to Sybase.

Password

Enter the password for the user name. 

Confirm Password

Re-enter the password for confirmation.

Databases for exclusion

Enter the Sybase database names, separatedbycomma, that you want to exclude from monitoring.

By leaving this field empty, it will include all databases for monitoring

  • This field is valid only if you enable either the Customdata, Databases in the Custom collection details field or select Full data in the Custom collection details field.
  • Input must not contain any character set. (no space and semicolon)

(Only for upgrade from 10.8 to 11.0 and later) Log monitoring

If you upgrade from BMC PATROL for Sybase 10.8 to 11.0 and later, and you had enables log monitoring, select this check box for monitoring the error log of Syabse Adaptive Server.

Notes

  • You cannot access and monitor the Adaptive Server error logs when you monitor a remote Adaptive Server. That is, this option is applicable only for local monitoring.
  • For monitoring Adaptive Server error log, you must install BMC PATROL for Log Management KM locally on your machine.

If you have installed BMC PATROL for Sybase 11.0 or later, to enable log monitoring, install and configure the BMC PATROL for Log Management KM.

Encrypt password

Use Encrypt password

Enable this option to encrypt the ASE login password.

JCE provider

Specify the JCE provider

The asymmetric password encryption mechanism uses RSA encryption algorithms to encrypt the password being transmitted. To perform this RSA encryption, you must configure a Java Cryptography Extension (JCEprovider.

SSL

Enable SSL

 Select this option to enable SSL.

Trust Store file path

Specify the TrustStore file name for one way SSL and two way SSL connections.

Trust Store file password

Specify the TrustStore password for one way SSL and two way SSL connections.

Collection details

Custom collection details

Select any of the following collection details for monitoring the Sybase instance.

  • Availability—Select this option to check the availability of instances, connections, and databases.
  • Full data—Select this option to collect all the monitored groups.
  • Custom data—Select this option to collect only the monitored groups selected from the custom data module types.

Select the tabs below to see the collection level details of each Sybase component.

Custom SQL query configuration

Note

The custom SQL query configuration is valid only if you enable either the Customdata, Databases in the Custom collection details field or select Full data in the Custom collection details field.

SQL name

Enter the name of the SQL query.

Database names

Enter the Sybase database names, separated by a comma, on which the above mentioned SQL will run.

If you leave this field, then all Sybase databases will be added.

SQL query

Enter the SQL query.

Collection time (min)

Select the collection cycle time in minutes for the Sybase SQL query. The default value is 1 minute.

Add to List

Click this option for confirming the configuration information that you provided and adding the SQL query to the list of configured SQL queries.

Modify Selection

Select one of the items that you added to the list in theprecedingstep,andclick this button to modify details.

Remove from List

Click this button to remove the configured SQL query name from the list of SQL queries.

List - SQL query details

A list of all configured SQL queries will be displayed here.

KM Administration

Device mapping

Select this check box to enable the device mapping on the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management user console.

By default, this option is enabled

Logging

Select the check box to turn the logging on or off for the Sybase environment you want to configure. By default, the data collection logging is turned off.

Long running TX qualification (sec)

Select the value for Long Running Trans parameter. The default value is 90 seconds.

This field is for Sybase ASE configuration only. 

 

Add to List

Click to add this environment configuration to the list of configured environment configurations details.

Modify Selection

Select one of the items that you added to the list in theprecedingstep,andclick this button to modify details.

Remove from List

Select one of the items that you added to the list in the preceding step, and click this button to remove the details.

List - Sybase Configuration

A list of all configured environment configurations will be displayed here.

 

Reset

Click this option to clear off your configuration details and revert to default settings.

Add

Click this option to add this monitoring configuration. This information is displayed on the Monitor Configuration page.

After you click this option, you can continue to add more objects for monitoring.

Close

Click this option to exit without saving any changes.
