Setting up a menu command trace

The Trace function for menu commands enables you to store a history of actions invoked through the menu commands associated with an application class. After the set up, a trace icon is added to the desktop, enabling easy viewing of the trace.

To set up a menu command trace

  1. From the PATROL Console work area, right-click an existing SAP Solution Manager (SSM_SOLMAN) or SAP System (SSM_SID_CONT).
  2. Select KM Commands >Trace Menu > Set Up Menu Command Trace.
  3. Click to select the trace instance on the left.
  4. Set trace level to a level higher than 0 to activate the trace. The higher the trace level, the more detailed the stored history. Select from the following values:
    • 0-- Trace off
    • 1-- Basic milestones only, especially messages notifying of the beginning and the completion of actions invoked by menu commands
    • 2-- Detailed information, including functions that were called
    • 3-- More detailed information, including arguments.
  5. In the Output destination field, select either WINDOW for display of the trace through the PATROL Console desktop, or FILE for storing the trace in a file in the appropriate following location:
    • Windows--*%PATROL_HOME%\SSMKM*
    • UNIX--$PATROL_HOME/../SSMKM/
  6. Click Apply, and click Close.
