Support for IPv6

BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager now supports Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)

Support for the latest PI version

BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager now supports the latest PI version.

Support for SAP J2EE standalone server

You will now be able to monitor the SAP J2EE standalone server. The J2EE availability discovers and samples the J2EE stack of the SAP system.

Support for the latest OS versions supported by both PATROL and SAP

From installation standpoint the BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager supports the latest OS versions supported by both PATROL and SAP

Updates in the configuration through BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration

Downloading the product

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the product from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

To download the installation utility and product from the EPD website

Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.
Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
- Using Component View
- Using Licensed Products View

Using Component View

In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
Click Go.
In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
In the Version: list, select 9.6.01, and click Go.
In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
- Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
- Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
  This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
Click to close the window.
In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager.
Click Go.
In the right pane, click BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager.
In the Version: list, select 2.1.00, and click Go.
In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

Using Licensed Products View

Click Go To Licensed Products View.
Locate BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
Expand BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite 9.6.00 to show the available components.
Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.01 and BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite (Monitoring, Analytics, Diagnostics, Event and Impact) 9.6.00 to show the available components.
Expand BMC PATROL for SAP Solutions Manager 2.1.00 to show the available files.

Select the check box next to the files as appropriate,

Installing the product

Before you begin

You must install the product on the following computers:

Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
Hosts that are running the PATROL Console

Before you install the product, complete the following steps:

Stop the PATROL Agent.
Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
Delete all BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.

To install the BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager 2.1.00

1. Extract the installation utility for your operating system as appropriate:
  - For Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_9600.zip.
  - For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_9600.tar.
    
    The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
2. Extract the product files for your operating system as appropriate:
  - For Windows, double-click SSM_ALL_2100.zip.
  - For UNIX, enter tar -xvf SSM_ALL_2100.tar.
    
    The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
3. From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:
  - For Windows, double-click setup.exe.
  - For UNIX, run setup.sh.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed.
5. On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL for SAP Solution Manager version 2.1.00.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
