Monitoring SAP system by using Computing Center Management System (CCMS)

PATROL for SAP Solution Manager connects to SAP Solution Manager systems to discover the SAP system landscape and collect data from all defined SAP Satellite systems. With this feature, you monitor the health of your SAP systems by using availability and performance attributes from the Computing Center Management System (CCMS). Use this information to predict and address potential issues in your SAP environment, ensuring continuous operation.
CCMS is an alert monitoring system for the SAP environment. The Monitoring Tree Elements (MTEs) in CCMS represent the monitored parameters and are grouped within CCMS Contexts. PATROL for SAP Solution Manager uses the RZ20 SAP transaction code to collect the SAP CCMS Technical Expert Monitors (All Monitoring Contexts) and its parameters.
PATROL for SAP Solution Manager also constructs a replica of the CCMS hierarchy in TrueSight Operations Management or BMC Helix Operations Management. By default, it checks for changes to the CCMS Contexts every 24 hours to ensure up-to-date monitoring.

The following image displays an example of the hierarchy within the replica CCMS tree for a single CCMS parameter:

Important

The value of the alert parameter, such as AbapErrorInUpdate in CCMS, reports the status 0 (inactive) when no data is collected from the SAP Solution Manager system.

The corresponding parameter value is reported by using SMSGVALUE in the SAP Solution Manager system. The following list shows the alert values and respective colors used to indicate the alerts:

  • 0 = Inactive
  • 1 = Green
  • 2 = Yellow
  • 3 = Red

The following image displays the CCMS tree:

BMC PATROL for SAP Solution Manager uses the RFC function BAPI_SYSTEM_MTE_GETSMVALUE to collect details such as SMSGVALUE, SMSGDATE, SMSGTIME, and MSG
