Collecting SAP HANA alerts

This feature is available in TrueSight Operations Management only.

Collect alerts in SAP HANA as events in TrueSight Operations Management and monitor the overall database health. By collecting all the generated alerts in SAP HANA in TrueSight Operations Management, you can use TrueSight Operations Management as the monitoring tool for all events. When you monitor the alerts, you can proactively know the issues that can occur and take necessary measures to avoid disruption in the database services.

To collect the SAP HANA alertsadd the following configuration variables (also referred to as pconfig variables) to the infrastructure policies that you are using to monitor the SAP HANA database.

Variable

Description

/SHM/SAP_HANA/Direct/<ENV_NAME>/eventSeverity

Sets the severity of the event. It is a mandatory variable.

Its value must be between 1 and 5, where 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest severity.

/SHM/SAP_HANA/Direct/<ENV_NAME>/patrolEventSize

Defines the number of events sent for processing in the data collection cycle. The default value is 50.

It is an optional variable.

/SHM/SAP_HANA/Direct/<ENV_NAME>/maxEventPollTime

Gets events for the time when the PATROL Agent was down. After restarting, PATROL Agent collects past events for the time that you specify in the variable.

The default value is 7200 seconds (2 hours) and the maximum value is 86400 seconds (24 hours). It is an optional variable.

If you do not want to collect events for the time (if and) when PATROL Agent is down, set this variable to 0.

For example, the PATROL Agent is down for an hour and you have set the variable value as 7200. The events generated during this hour are collected after it restarts.

/SHM/SAP_HANA/Direct/<ENV_NAME>/eventCollector

Sets the event collection time. The default and minimum event collection time is 60 seconds. It is an optional variable.

/EventSetup/Format/BiiP3/catalogs/0/types/41/active

Creates an event in TrueSight Operations Management by using SAP HANA alert details. It uses event type 41 from the standard catalog list of PATROL Agent.

By default, the event type 41 is disabled. To collect the SAP HANA events, enable the event type by setting the value of this configuration variable as 1.

To disable the collection, set the value of this variable as 0.

To add a configuration variable

  2. Locate the infrastructure policy and click Edit.
  3. Click the Configuration Variables tab and then click Add Configuration Variable.
  4. On the Add Configuration Variable page, in the Variable field, enter the variable path and name.
    For example, /SHM/SAP_HANA/Direct/<ENV_NAME>/eventSeverity.
  5. From the Operation list, select REPLACE
You create a new variable by using the REPLACE operation.
Use the following options for the existing variables:
    • DELVAR: Deletes the variable and disables the task for which you created it. The value is deleted after you save the policy.
    • DELETE: Sets the variable value to an empty string. The value is deleted after you save the policy.
  6. In the Value field, enter the value of the variable.
If you do not enter a value, default value of the variable is used.
