2.0.00.01: Patch 1 for PATROL for Remedy AR Server

This topic contains information about an update in patch 2.0.00.01 of the PATROL for Remedy AR Server. It also provides instructions for downloading and installing the patch. 

Update in the 2.0.00.01 patch

The PATROL for Remedy AR Server 2.0.00.01 patch includes the following update:

Ability to monitor a single Remedy AR Server without administrator privileges

A user without administrator privileges can now monitor a single Remedy AR Server by using a single connection. Administrator privileges are required to monitor the entire Remedy AR server group. With this new feature, the KM allows you to monitor a single Remedy AR Server at a time without the need to monitor the entire Remedy AR server group. You must setup the monitoring details for each server separately if you choose to use this option.

To use this feature in TrueSight console, select the Single server connection (non-admin user) option in the Connection type field while configuring the Remedy AR systems. For more information, see Configuring-AR-Server-Systems.

To use this feature in PATROL consoles, enable the Enable group monitoring option while configuring the AR Server Systems. For more information, see Registering-BMC-Remedy-AR-System.

Downloading the installation utility and patch

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the patch from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website. To download the patch and installation utility from the EPD website, perform the following steps:

  1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.

    On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.

  2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
  3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
  4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements and click Continue.
  5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
  6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
  7. You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
Using Component View
  1. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  2. Click Go.

  3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.

    You can use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 10.0.00 or later.

  4. In the Version: list, select 10.5.00 and click Go.

  5. In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

  6. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
    • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
    • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
      This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
  7. Click <<Back to Product List.
  8. In the Filter Products: field, type PATROL for Remedy AR Server.
  9. Click Go.
  10. In the right pane, click PATROL for Remedy AR Server.
  11. In the Version: list, select 2.0.00 and click Go.

  12. In the Patches tab, select the check box next to the file.

  14. Complete the installation procedure described in the Installing the patch section.

  1. Click Go To Licensed Products View.
  2. Locate PATROL Installation Utility and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.

  3. Locate PATROL Installation Utility 10.5.00 to show the available files.

    You can use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 10.0.00 or later.

  4. Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platforms.

  7. In the Product Patches tab, locate PATROL for Remedy AR Server and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
  8. Expand PATROL for Remedy AR Server 2.0.00 to show the available components.

  9. Select the check box next to the patches.

Installing the patch

Note

The PATROL for Remedy AR Server 2.0.00.01 patch contains all of the files that are required for a complete product release. You can install the product as a fresh installation.

Before you begin

You must install the patch on the following computers:

  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Console

Before you install the patch, complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the PATROL Agent.
  2. Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  3. Delete all PATROL for Remedy AR Server files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  4. Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.

To install the PATROL for Remedy AR Server 2.0.00.01 patch

After you have downloaded the installation utility and patch files, perform the following steps to install the patch:

  1. Extract the installation utility:
    1. For Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_10500.zip.
    2. For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_10500.tar
      The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products sub-directory.
  2. Extract the patch file:
    1. For Windows, double-click ARS_LINUX-SOLARIS-WINDOWS_200001.zip
    2. For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ARS_LINUX-SOLARIS-WINDOWS_200001.tar
      The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products sub-directory. 
  3. From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:
    1. For Windows, double-click setup.exe
    2. For UNIX, run setup.sh
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed. 
  5. On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL for Remedy AR Server - Patch 2.0.00.01.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. 
  7. After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
