Monitoring user licenses

You can monitor the number of user licenses in your Oracle Application environment. These statistics can provide you with information about the number of needed licenses.

To monitor the licenses, you must first perform the following tasks:

BMC PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite monitors the Oracle Name and Session licensing types. The Name license type uses the current number of logon application sessions as the license number, while the Session license type uses the current number of DB sessions as the license number. When the the number of DB sessions or the number of logon sessions is greater than the number of licenses set in the Concurrent User Licenses threshold, the NumUserExceedLic parameter will enter an alarm state.

If the KM detects the number of Oracle Applications users has exceeded the license limit, the KM automatically reports that the limit is exceeded. If there is only a single console connection, you are prompted to automatically kill logon user sessions. The dialog box allows you to select multiple users and kill their sessions. If there are multiple console connections, the dialog box displays instructions for manually killing user sessions.

Two parameters in the APP_USER (OA_USER) application enable you to monitor user licenses:

Parameter

Type

Description

NumUsedLicenses

Graph

Shows the number of concurrent user licenses currently being used out of all concurrent user licenses that you own.

The number is determined by the license type. The Name license type uses the current number of logon application sessions as the license number, while the Session license type uses the current number of DB sessions as the license number. To switch between Name license type and Session license type, use the Setup > License Type  command from the APP_USER (OA_USER) application menu.

NumUserExceedLic

Graph

Shows the number of DB sessions or the number of logon sessions that crossed the Concurrent User Licenses threshold setting, depending on the selected license type. The Name license type uses the current number of logon application sessions as the license number, while the Session license type uses the current number of DB sessions as the license number.

PATROL monitors the Oracle Named User licensing type. A named user is an individual who is authorized to use Oracle Applications on a specified computer, with no set user session limits.

When the number of logon sessions or the number of DB sessions is greater than the number of licenses set in the Concurrent User Licenses threshold, the NumUserExceedLic parameter enters an alarm state, and a special dialog box prompts you to terminate ("kill") logon user sessions. If there is only a single console connection, you are prompted to automatically kill logon user sessions. If there are multiple console connections, the dialog box displays instructions for manually killing user sessions.
