Monitoring SQL*Net
SQL*Net allows Oracle Applications users to communicate with the Oracle relational database. SQL*Net Listener, which resides on the database machine, is a process that waits for user calls to the database and sends the data back to the user. The SqlNetStatus parameter monitors the status of the SQL*Net Listener process.
This topic contains the following information:
If the SQL*Net Listener is up, the icon for the parameter is a green stoplight; if the SQL*Net Listener is down, the icon is a red stoplight. When the parameter is red (alarm), the SqlNetStatus recovery action reports that SQL*Net Listener is down.
When SqlNetStatus is yellow (warning), either the SID service is down or the FNDFS* or FNDSM* service is down. The parameter reports the specific listener that is down, and prompts you to make sure that the downed listener is defined in the Applications Server configuration (using Setup > Initial System Setup) from the Oracle_Apps <hostname> menu.
If there is only a single console connection, you are prompted to automatically start SQL*Net Listener. If there are multiple console connections, instructions for manually starting SQL*Net Listener are displayed.
If you use the remote managing and monitoring option, the SqlNetStatus parameter monitors only the FNDFS* or FNDSM* service. The SID service cannot be monitored when the remote managing and monitoring option is used.
Access the SqlNetStatus parameter through the DB_STATUS (OA_DBSTATUS) application. Double-click the SqlNetStatus parameter to display the SQL*Net Listener status history on a graphical time line.
If the listener process is not functioning properly, the SqlNetStatus parameter enters and alarm state. You can easily start and stop SQL*Net Listener from within the PATROL Console, using the following procedures.
To start the SQL*Net listener
- Select Start SQL*NET Listener from the DB_STATUS (OA_DBSTATUS) application menu.
The Start SQL*Net Listener dialog box appears. - Enter the OS Oracle user name and password.
If you have listeners running on the remote node, additional information is required and the following fields appear:- Oracle Home: Location of the Oracle Home directory on the remote node
- TNS Admin: Location of the tnsnames.ora file in the remote Oracle user environment on the remote node
- Click Accept.
The Start SQL*Net Listener report appears informing you of the command result.
To stop the SQL*Net listener
- Select Stop SQL*NET Listener from the DB_STATUS (OA_DBSTATUS) application menu.
The Stop SQL*Net Listener dialog box appears.
