PATROL requirements
Verify that the following software requirements have been met before you load and configure BMC PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite:
- Version 3.6.x of the BMC PATROL Agent must be installed on a computer that you configure as an Oracle host, and depending on your Oracle Applications configuration, the Forms servers, Web servers, and Metrics servers. Refer to BMC PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite Components. See Installing-PATROL-components for information about installing PATROL in your environment.
- PATROL for UNIX must be available for loading by the BMC PATROL Agent. For supported hardware and software release information, refer to Supported-platforms.
This topic contains the following information:
Using multiple PATROL consoles
If multiple PATROL Consoles are monitoring Oracle Applications, automatic recovery actions are disabled. This is because the PATROL knowledge module cannot distinguish which user response should take precedence over the other. When a recovery action dialog box appears and multiple PATROL Consoles are monitoring Oracle Applications, the dialog box will provide manual instructions to fix the issue.
Access Control List (ACL) permissions
PATROL for Oracle E-Business Suite utilizes PEM function calls to communicate with BMC PATROL Agents on monitored nodes. In order to communicate properly among the various nodes (database server, middle-tier servers), the Access Control List permissions must be set to P, or PEM mode. This ACL setting is required from all managed nodes to the central node (where the KM is installed), and from the central node to all managed nodes. Each node must
also be permitted to use PEM to itself as well.
Access Control List permissions are controlled by the pconfig /AgentSetup/accessControlList variable. The value for this variable follows the format userName/hostName/mode, where:
- userName is the user ID of the PATROL account on the managed node.
- hostName is the name of the central node (the local host). Specifying the host name limits permissions, allowing only the Agent on the central node to connect to the Agent on the managed node.
- mode can be any combination of the modes C, D, O, P, and R, as long as it contains the letter P (PEM mode).
For further details, see the BMC PATROL Agent Reference Manual.
Logon account and default PATROL account
During installation you are asked to specify the default PATROL account. This user account is automatically assigned the rights needed to operate PATROL. BMC Software recommends that you create a unique user account for the PATROL default. If one does not already exist on your computer, see the PATROL Installation Reference Manual for instructions for your operating system.
To enable the monitoring of Oracle Applications by BMC PATROL for Oracle E-Business Suite, add the PATROL account to the dba group.
