Setting up the BMC PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite Probe

As an Oracle Applications administrator, you might support thousands of users trying to connect to an Oracle Applications system over a wide area network. To maintain good end-to-end response time, you must determine which network users are experiencing long response times and which users cannot access the Oracle Applications system at all. To help you measure direct end-to-end performance, use the BMC PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite Probe to execute Oracle Applications database queries from selected desktop clients.

This topic contains the following information:

Loading the PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite Probe

To monitor and manage the BMC PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite Probe, you must load the files for the Probe into the PATROL Console. In this task, you will load a response time probe instance to provide direct end-to-end performance measurement of executed Oracle Applications database queries from selected desktop clients.

For more information, see Loading-BMC-PATROL-for-Oracle-e-Business-Suite.

Configuring the PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite Probe

In this task, you will configure a response time probe instance to provide direct end-to-end performance measurement of executed Oracle Applications database from selected desktop clients.

Before you begin

If you are setting up a two-tier (SQL) Probe, the Oracle client must be set up on the Probe host.

To add a new Probe instance

  1. Select Configuration > Probe Agent Setup from the PROBE_MON menu for the Application ID you want to set up. The Probe-Agent-Configuration-dialog-box appears

    Warning

    Note

The first time you set up a Probe instance, the Probe Agent Configuration dialog box will not list a Probe ID. After you have configured a Probe instance, the Probe Agent Configuration dialog box lists existing Probe instance IDs.

  2. Select Add and click Accept. The Oracle-Probe-Method-dialog-box appears.
  3. Select a Probe Method for the configured probe and click Accept.
    • In a two-tier environment, select Direct Sqlplus (2 tier).
    • In a three-tier environment, select Connect via HTTP (3 tier).
  4. Click Exit. The Add Probe Agent Information dialog box appears. For more information, see Add Probe Agent Information dialog box (2-tier) and Add Probe Agent Information dialog box (3-tier).
