Data point annotation

When a parameter changes state to WARNING or ALARM, a data point appears on the graph displaying the state of that parameter. PATROL stores additional information about the data point, indicating what caused the state change. This information is called data point annotation, and is accessed by double-clicking the data point. For example, double-clicking an annotated data point for the parameter NumErrCompletedRequest will display a list of failed concurrent requests.

This section contains the following topics:

Use the following procedures to specify which parameters will display and store data point annotation when they go into alarm or warning states. The default setting is no annotation, except for the parameters of OA_COLLECTOR, which are always annotated.

Setting data point annotation is not retroactive. After a parameter is selected for annotation, it will start annotating on the next discovery cycle.

The annotation is stored in the history file ($PATROL_HOME/log/history), so the amount of annotation generated will directly impact the size of this file.
