Adding an Oracle Applications server configuration
This topic describes how to add an Oracle Applications server configuration.
This topic provides the following information:
To configure an Oracle database instance
To monitor an Oracle database instance, you must configure the instance with BMC PATROL for Oracle e-Business Suite using the following procedure.
- From the OA_SETUP application menu, select OA Configuration.
The first time the PATROL KM is loaded, and the Application ID has not yet been configured, the icon name is OA_SETUP. After the Application ID has been created, the icon is renamed to Oracle_Apps <hostname>.
The KM-Configuration-for-Oracle-Applications-dialog-box displays the Application IDs that are available for configuration. - Select Add OA Server Configuration, and click Accept.
The Database Configuration for Oracle KM dialog box appears. - All the Oracle database instances that have been detected on the host appear in the Select Oracle Instances for Configurationfield. You now have two choices:
- To configure an Oracle instance that does not appear on this list, select the Add Oracle Instance for Configuration check box, and click Accept. The Add-Instances-dialog-box appears. Proceed with Step 4 below.
- To configure an instance that appears on the Select Oracle Instances for Configuration list, select the instance and click Accept. The instance now appears in the field headed Oracle Instance Selected. Proceed with Step 9 below.
- Type the database SID in the Instance Name field.
- Type the path of the Oracle home environment variable in the Home field. Note that this path might differ, depending on the configuration of Oracle Applications -- either on the database server (in a standard configuration), or on the application server (if using a stand-alone database server).
- If you have configured your database to require a service (in a 2-tier configuration or a 3-tier configuration using a stand-alone database), type the service in the Service field .
- In the Username and Password fields, enter the user ID and password of any valid database account. This information is used only this one time during configuration, to validate the database instance.
- Click Apply, and click Exit.
The Database Configuration for Oracle KM dialog box reappears. Within this dialog box, the field Select Oracle Instances for Configuration lists all Oracle instances that have been detected on the host. - Select an instance from the Select Oracle Instances for Configuration list and click Accept.
The database instance you selected appears under the heading Oracle Instance Selected. - Click Exit. The Add-OA-Server-Configuration-dialog-box appears.
- Enter the information for the Oracle Applications database, applications system, and applications servers as described in the Add OA Server Configuration dialog box.
- After you have entered the information, click Accept.
- In a multi-language environment, a dialog box appears, prompting you to select the language you want to use in the reports that support multiple languages. For proper function, language selection is mandatory in a multi-language environment.
- Click Exit to exit the function. You must exit from all dialog boxes before monitoring will start.
After a new Application ID has been created, it will appear beneath the Oracle_Apps <hostname> ($) icon, which will appear on the next discovery cycle. Double-click the $ icon to see the money bag icon with the Application ID you just created. Each money bag icon represents an Oracle Applications system instance configured on the connected database host.
Troubleshooting
- If the Oracle account you want to use for PATROL already exists (perhaps from a previous installation), PATROL update the account and install the new database objects on it.
- If an error occurs during configuration, and the Oracle account for PATROL did not exist, PATROL performs a drop cascade on the new account, and deletes the database objects and the new account.update the account and install the new database objects on it.
- If an error occurs during configuration, and the Oracle account for PATROL already existed, PATROL only deletes the new database objects. The Oracle account is not dropped.
