Changing the User ID and Passwords on Remote Hosts

The Change Remote Passwords command enables you to change the user ID and password on multiple remote hosts.

Changing the configuration of user IDs and passwords on multiple remote hosts is a two-step process:

  1. Prepare an input text file.
  2. Run the Change Remote Passwords menu command.

Note

After running the Change Remote Passwords command, you must restart patcol (KM Commands for the Tuxedo instance > KM Admin. > Restart PATCOL).

To Prepare an Input File

You must prepare an input file every time you wish to run the Change Remote Password command. The input file contains all the details necessary for switching user IDs and passwords. The information in this file is organized as a series of textual entries of two types: Host Details entry and Instance Details entry.
Each entry contains a series of values, separated by commas, as shown in the following table.

  3. Complete the Change Password for Remote Hosts dialog box as follows:
    • In Local PatrolAgent User ID, enter the user name of the default PATROL account authorized to access the PATROL Agent on the local host.
    • In Password, enter the password of the default PATROL account authorized to access the PATROL Agent on the local host.
    • In Input File, enter the full name and pathway of the input file that you created; for more information, see To Prepare an Input File.
    • In Log File, enter the full name and pathway for the log file that will be created. The log file is created automatically on your local computer when you submit your request for switching password configuration. For each password switch that was requested, it contains the following information:
      • Host Name
      • Port
      • User
      • Old User
      • New User
      • Error Message—for cases when the password switch operation could not be initiated (for example, failure to connect to the remote host)
  4. Click Accept
Your requests for switching user IDs and passwords are sent to the appropriate target hosts, and a status message is displayed. The actual process of changing password configuration (in the pconfig) is executed asynchronously at each remote host. Details of this process are written in a special output file named LogChangePassword, which is automatically created within the $PATROL_HOME directory on each of the target remote hosts. To verify that password switching was successful, review the created output files on the remote hosts.
For each password switch that was requested, the output file contains the
    following information:
    • Variable Name—the pconfig variable name that was affected
    • Old User
    • New User
    • Error Message—for cases when the password switch operation failed
  5. To change the configuration of other remote host passwords using another input file, repeat on page 78 through 4.
  6. After changing all desired passwords, click Cancel to exit the dialog box.
