Configuring a listener

Before you can monitor a listener, you must configure the specific listener. If you have a clustered environment, you need to perform an additional configuration. The following figure displays the tasks.

Note

  • If you are configuring a local and non-clustered listener using a logical host name instead of the Agent host name, you need to use Cluster configuration menu command.
  • The Patrol OS Account must have read access to the following files:
    • listener.ora
    •  tnsnames.ora
    •  endpoints_listener.ora
  • If you want to stop monitoring a listener, use the "Global Exclude Listeners" menu command.

To edit a listener, use the following steps:

  1. From the ORANET menu, choose Configuration, select the listener to configure from the list of detected listeners, and click edit.
  2. Ensure that the HOME for the listener in the Listener Home field is correct.
  3. PATROL creates a LISTENER icon and begins monitoring the listener. You can use the Exit buttons to exit the box and function.

To add a listener, use the following steps:

  1. From the ORANET menu, choose Configuration and click add.
  2. Specify listener name, listener home, listener host and specify if it is local or remote listener
  3. PATROL creates a LISTENER icon and begins monitoring the listener. You can use the Exit buttons to exit the box and function.

Note

You can specify the path to the directory in which the listener.ora files exist. To add the path, use the following pconfig variable:/OraNetConfig.CustomListenerConfigPaths.HOST Values: comma separated list of paths. Example: /OraNetConfig.CustomListenerConfigPaths. /oracle/product/11.0.0/,/oracle/product/10.2.0/

Global Exclude Listeners

From the ORANET menu, KM Command > Global Exclude Listeners

You have the option to drag right and left listeners according to which you want to enable or disable.

Other option is using regular expression. The priority of the filter is for dragging list, in case you need to use regular expression , then all the listeners must be in active list.

Global Exclude Listeners Services

From the ORANET menu, KM Command > Global Exclude Listeners Services

You have the option to drag right and left listeners services according to which you want to enable or disable.

Global Error Log Filters

From the ORANET menu, KM Command > Global Error Log Filters

By default, the ListenerLog parameter alarms only on TNS errors. If you want this parameter to alarm for all listeners, use the Global Error Log Filters menu command to add strings for monitoring.
