Redo Log Files Not Archived (RedoNotArch)
Description
The RedoNotArchived parameter reports the number of redo log files that have been written but not yet archived, excluding the current online redo log file. This information may be used to alert the database administrator that the archiving process is falling behind. This parameter can only be instantiated when the monitored instance is running in ARCHIVELOG mode.
The default warning and alarm levels do not alert when a single log is waiting for archiving. This prevents false alerts from appearing when the queue is sampled immediately after a redo log switch. When this happens, the queue contains only one file for archiving for a short time. The annotation for this parameter reports the unarchived log files with their date and time of the first time they were written.
Recommendations
You can force a redo log archive using the SQL*DBA command, ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG ALL. See your Oracle SQL*DBA manuals for more information.
