Guidelines

Information
Announcement Support for this product will end on December 22, 2025. To monitor Oracle databases, we recommend that you use PATROL for Oracle Enterprise Database.

Redo Log Archive Delay (RedoArchDelay)

Description

The RedoArchDelay parameter lists the number of minutes from the last time that the redo log was switched. The annotation for this parameter lists the unarchived redo log and the date and time for the first entry for the redo log. You can use this parameter to determine how long it takes to perform a log switch on the current log file.  This parameter has no meaning when redo log archiving is not enabled.

Warning

Note

If the instance is changed from non-archive mode to archive mode, you must initialize the PATROL Agent to discover and activate this parameter.

Recommendations

If the parameter is in warning or alarm, it may have been too long since the redo log has been switched. You can activate the recovery action for warning Perform Log Switch, and determine when the new redo log will be created by changing the alarm threshold for Alarm1. However, the perform Log Switch recovery action will be continuously executed at the minutes you specify in the alarm thresholds. This may lead to filling up the space with unnecessary redo logs. You should turn off this recovery action after you have determined that the log switch has been executed once. The minimum threshold for the Perform Log Switch recovery action is 30 minutes, unless you change the polling cycle of the CollLog parameter.
