Guidelines

Announcement Support for this product will end on December 22, 2025. To monitor Oracle databases, we recommend that you use PATROL for Oracle Enterprise Database.

ETSM (ORACLE_ETSM)

Contains the Extended Tablespace Monitoring (ETSM) applications. This application discovers and monitors the percent used (PctUsed) and space left (SpaceLeft) for all autoextensible and non-autoextensible tablespaces, except those that are excluded from monitoring.

The application class places the tablespaces in ETSM_<tablespace type> applications according to types that you define in the default_auto_config file.

Note

The application class supports instances that use ASM storage. In case of an Instance that uses ASM storage, the ORACLE_ETSM application class uses v$ASM_DISKGROUP_STAT view to get the free space for disk groups that are used for storing the data files. When the query is performed from the monitored instance, the free space is considered only for the disk groups that are in a mounted /connected state.

Instance level tablespace history ON/OFF options

When ETSM history option is OFF (default)

The ETSM application performs the following actions irrespective of threshold ranges. All of the container application class parameters are available.

When a tablespace exception occurs:

  • An ETSM application class only collects data for a specific tablespace instance when the threshold specified in the ETSM container level is reached.

When ETSM history option is ON

Tablespace history is monitored as follows:

The following table lists a description of the parameters provided by the ETSM_ tablespace type container application class when the history option is OFF.

 ETSM_tablespace type container application parameters

The following table lists a description of the parameters provided by the ETSM_TBSP_INSTANCE application class when the history option is ON, or an exception occurs.

 ETSM_TBSP_INSTANCE application parameters

Oracle level global tablespace history ON/OFF options

You can set the ETSM history using the ETSM-Global-Configuration application class.

You must have the ORACLE_ETSM.kml file loaded for the ETSM applications to appear.

When you also load the ORACLE_AUTO_CONFIG.kml file, you can define the tablespace types for the ETSM applications in the default_auto_config.txt file. If you do not have ORACLE_AUTO_CONFIG.kml loaded or not defined the tablespace types in the default_auto_config.txt file, the undefined tablespaces are placed in the ETSM_REGULAR application by default.

The ORACLE_ ETSM application icon is labeled ETSM.
